The rehaut is the inner bezel ring — the sloped or vertical surface between the dial edge and the crystal, visible when looking at the watch from directly above. On some references it is plain and unfinished; on others it carries engraved serial numbers, tachymeter scales, minute track markings, or repeated brand engravings. The rehaut is a reference-specific detail that contributes to the overall dial presentation and is one of the finishing elements most closely examined in high-end replica evaluation.
In replica watches, rehaut quality separates grades in ways that are visible under close inspection but easy to miss at a glance. The engraving depth, text alignment, and finishing of the rehaut surface are all indicators of production precision. At high-end grade, rehaut engravings are crisp, evenly spaced, and correctly aligned with dial indices. At lower grades, shallow engraving, uneven text spacing, and a poorly finished rehaut surface are common — details that become apparent in close QC photos and under magnification.
In Practice
- Engraving depth is the primary rehaut quality indicator. On references where the rehaut carries repeated text — a brand name running around the full circumference, for example — the engraving should be consistently deep and legible around the full ring. Shallow engraving that reads correctly at 12 o'clock but fades toward 6 o'clock indicates uneven machining.
- Text alignment with dial indices is a precision indicator. On references where rehaut markings align with specific hour positions or dial markers, that alignment should be exact — not approximate. Misalignment between the rehaut engraving and the corresponding dial element is visible in straight-on QC photos.
- Rehaut surface finish should be consistent with the case finishing. A polished rehaut on a reference that specifies brushed inner surfaces, or a machined-looking rehaut on a reference with a smooth inner ring, is a finishing specification error.
- Serial number engravings on the rehaut — present on certain references — should be correctly formatted and positioned. The font weight, character spacing, and placement relative to the dial edge are reference-specific details that experienced buyers check directly in QC photos.
- The rehaut is not visible in all QC photo angles. A straight-on dial shot may show it clearly; a slightly angled shot may obscure it. If rehaut quality is a priority, request a photo taken directly above the dial under good lighting — this is the angle that reveals engraving depth and text consistency most clearly.
