Case size refers to the diameter of a watch case measured in millimetres — typically taken across the widest point of the case, excluding the crown. It is the most commonly cited dimension in watch specifications and the primary reference point buyers use when assessing how a watch will fit on the wrist. A case listed as 40mm measures 40mm across the case body at its widest horizontal point.
In replica watches, case size accuracy is a reference-specific specification. The stated diameter should match the genuine model — not approximate it. At high-end grade, case dimensions are produced to the reference specification with tolerances tight enough that the difference is not visible or felt. At lower grades, case diameter can vary from the genuine by 1–2mm in either direction — a difference that affects lug-to-lug fit, bracelet proportion, and overall wrist presence.
In Practice
- Case diameter alone does not determine wrist fit. Lug-to-lug distance — the measurement from the tip of one lug to the tip of the opposite lug — determines how far the watch extends across the wrist. Two watches with identical diameters can fit very differently depending on lug geometry.
- Case thickness — the measurement from the caseback to the top of the crystal — determines how much the watch sits above the wrist. A thin case disappears under a shirt cuff; a thick one does not. Thickness is as relevant to daily wear comfort as diameter, and is less frequently specified accurately in replica listings.
- Case size is not always measured consistently across sellers. Some measure to the crown; some include the crown guards; some measure at the lugs rather than the case body. When a seller's stated size differs from the genuine reference, ask how the measurement was taken before assuming inaccuracy.
- In QC photos, case size accuracy is most reliably assessed by proportion — how the dial sits within the case, how the bezel relates to the crystal, and how the lugs taper from the case body. A case that reads as correct in proportion is usually correct in dimension.
- For buyers with smaller wrists, case size is often the first specification to check — a 44mm case on a 16cm wrist reads very differently than it does on a 18cm wrist. The genuine reference's intended wearing context is a useful guide for whether the size works for a specific buyer.
